Surprising Things That May Be Hindering Your Healing…
Lack of curiosity.
You are looking for THE solution or THE ONE ROOT cause of your health woes. Spoiler - there is none. You, my friend, are a beautiful product of all of your experiences, emotions, exposures, environments… and they all contributed to where you are today, for better or for worse.
Chasing your symptoms or thinking that there is only ONE physical issue that needs to be addressed will only leave you spinning your wheels. You will need to address your emotional health and mindset, the toxicity of your environment, the potential pathogens that have made a home in your body, and the foundational habits that create your susceptibility.
Ignoring your teeth and mouth.
The health of your gums, teeth, and airway have a huge impact on your overall health.
Infections hidden in gums and root canals have been linked to cancers and other disease.
Many of us have airway issues - tongue ties and mouth breathing that can lead to a decrease in oxygen as we sleep. If there are chronic health issues, seeing a biological dentist or a myofunctional therapist for an evaluation may be helpful.
Ignoring your environment.
So many times we see doctor after doctor to examine our unexplainable health issues. If you’re getting nowhere, it’s time to consider that your environment may be contributing to your symptoms.
How clean are the products you are using? Is your water filtered well? Do you have mold growing unknowingly in your home? Are you regularly exposed to chemicals and pesticides?
All of these things can contribute to your toxic bucket and keep it full, not allowing you to heal. Pay attention, and start make shifts for a cleaner and healthier environment.
A SAD diet.
Standard American Diet.
Unfortunately - most restaurants today serve something very distantly resembling actual food. It’s processed, sprayed, and manufactured - sometimes with almost zero actual nutrition.
Your food is the fuel for your body. You can be stuffing yourself sick, and yet still be malnourished if you don’t focus on the nutritional content of your meals.
If you are still hungry after your fast-food dinner, it may not be extra calories your body is asking for - but for actual nourishment.
Lack of passion in life.
There are many of us who have been sick for so long, it has become an identity, or a primary focus of our life. We don’t know life any other way, and our disease has stripped us of our sense of purpose and passion.
I truly think one of the best ways to combat the bondage that stress can keep us in, is to fix our eyes on purpose instead. Find ways to add meaning to your days, to engage with nature that we were created to live in, to build community. This may look different than a life “before” whatever line in the sand has been drawn, but it is still possible, and even vital.
Your mind, and how you live your life, will often communicate with your cells to lead the way.
Unforgiveness and bitterness.
A heart that is sick will lead to a body that is sick. Many of us have lived through trauma, however big or small. We have spent days asking “why me?” But the truth is, holding onto bitterness will not ever serve you. A fixation on all the ways you've been wronged is not a healing environment for your body.
Forgiveness does not mean you act like the wrongs didn't happen. It means you release those wrongs from creating bitterness and resentment in your heart. You will not let those things rule you anymore. Suppressed emotions can lead to a sick body. Find a way to process your journey, and let those emotions move through and out of your body.
Unbelief that you can heal.
Ask God to give you a vision of what healing looks like for you, and claim it.
YOUR version of healed may be different from mine. Claim yours.
Find ways to live into it now. Healing is about choices you make, but many people miss the spiritual/mindset piece - HOW you live.
Are you living out of trust, faith, an identity as a beloved child of God… or are you stuck in an identity as sick?
